Shut the front door!
Clover Cottage is in the news!
We are delighted that Clover Cottage is featured in the current issue of KL magazine and it’s all about our beautiful front door.
Clover Cottage is over 155 years old and has always had the cutest traditional front door, much shorter than a standard door but as you can see from these photos she was really showing her age.

For ages, I resisted replacing it because I worried a new door would look too modern and out of keeping with the character of this little Carrstone cottage. A talented local carpenter replaced the sill and refreshed it with a new lick of paint. This certainly improved the door’s appearance but it still didn’t fit as well as it could and struggled to keep the heat in.
After a particularly wet Winter, the old door swelled shut completely and could not be opened. At that point I knew the time had finally come for a replacement.
I contacted Rudd Joinery, a fantastic local Norfolk joinery company who had previously replaced my own front door. Honestly one of the best home improvement investments I have ever made. The improvement in insulation and heat retention was phenomenal. They are such a friendly company and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them. https://www.ruddjoinery.co.uk/
My biggest request was that the new door at Clover Cottage should be an exact replica of the original cottage door preserving all the charm and traditional cottage character, while incorporating modern craftsmanship and energy efficient technology to keep the weather out and the warmth in.
I’m sure you’ll agree they achieved the perfect balance between heritage style and modern performance. The finished result looks absolutely beautiful and completely in keeping with the age and character of Clover Cottage.
Not only that, our guests are much cosier thanks to the thermal retention.
They even fitted the number 7 back in it’s original place.
The project has just been featured in the current edition of KL magazine, a wonderful local Norfolk lifestyle magazine showcasing the very best of the area. Their photography is always stunning with interesting features on luxurious glossy pages yet still completely free to pick up in local shops and businesses across Norfolk. They also publish special editions such as Food & Drink and their Home Design and Build Special. I always love to get a copy and make sure Clover Cottage has copies for guests.
I was delighted when Rudd Joinery asked if Clover Cottage wanted to be featured in the magazine – obviously the answer was YES PLEASE!
